Periodontology

Periodontal or gum disease is one of the main causes of tooth loss in adults. Regular visits to the dentist are essential to maintain the health of the gums and for timely diagnosis and treatment when necessary. The initial phase of gum disease is called gingivitis. The more advanced stages of periodontal diseases are more serious problems with symptoms like: persistent bad taste, permanent teeth that are moving or separate, changes in the way your teeth fit when you bite.

Inflammation and bleeding of the gums is a relatively common situation, caused by the existence of bacteria. However, in chronic cases, prolonged bacterial and gum inflammation causes the destruction of the bone itself. As a result, the gums recede, exposing part of the root, and prompt treatment is essential. In these cases, only the intervention of the dentist can stop this process, solving in some cases the "shaking" of the tooth and preventing its loss.
